Day 4: Maasai Mara Game Reserve on the Big Five case

After breakfast your day will be spent exploring the park in search of the “Big Five” and trailing the wildebeest migration. You will easily see lion, rhino, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, warthog, hyena, jackal, wild dog, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelope and elephant. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savannah including the lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vulture. Later in the day you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

It is the Annual Migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and thousands of zebra flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains in search of water and fresh grazing land. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back. The Wildebeest travel through a variety of parks, reserves and protected areas and through a variety of habitat. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is home of Ngorongoro Crater that was formed some 2.5 million years ago from a volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity. It was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania's famous Kilimanjaro. The crater has evolved into a unique and integral part of Tanzania's eco-system. The crater is actually a caldera, measures 22.5 km's across and the rim walls stand 600m high. Views from within and from the rim are breathtaking!
